ABOUT
We believe a COLLABORATIVE approach is the best path to creating a space that fits you uniquely. A kitchen is the most functional and personal space in a home, and only you know exactly how you use it and what will work best for you. We offer options, knowledge, experience, new ways of seeing, guided thinking, and visuals, so that together we create a kitchen and home you love.
We believe our PROCESS makes remodeling less overwhelming, more organized, easier, and even fun! There is never any rush as you think through each step, ask questions, and explore more options. We will take as much time as you need for each step and keep working together until everything is just right.
We believe PACKAGE PRICING is easier on all of us. You don't have to worry about design fees ending up triple the estimate, being charged for any changes you want, or penciling in things for the contractor to have to decipher so you don't go overbudget. We don't have to worry about exceeding estimates, discounting our time, or dealing with excessive billing. You pay one fee up front, there are unlimited changes, and we keep working until all are satisfied. Simple.
We believe each HOUSE has a "voice". A house remains standing through many owners, and many years and fads. What is done to maintain it, and update it should stay true to the house as much as possible. A well-designed house will be timeless.
Laura Andersson, CKBD
OWNER/LEAD DESIGNER
Laura Andersson, Owner and Lead Designer, and NKBA certified, brings many layers of experience and knowledge to Abode. Her first interest and major in college was Clothing and Textiles. She sewed and designed clothing and home goods personally and professionally, and still loves working with a variety of textiles.
She then changed and got a degree in Elementary Education and spent many years teaching and tutoring. This experience is most helpful in guiding clients through the design process.
Laura has remodeled four of her own houses extensively- a log house (for this first project she took off the roof and added a second story!), an 1899 Victorian, a 1923 bungalow, and a 1974 split-entry. She knows what it is like to be on the "other side" and much of her business practices have developed from experiencing this perspective. Working personally with a variety of house styles and ages has given her an understanding for their unique needs and respect for each house's "voice".
Because she loved the process and transformations of her home renovations, Laura went back to school and got a degree in Interior Design. Upon graduation, she started her own business where she did space planning, created construction documents, and selected furniture and finishes. After moving to Washington she worked several years as a kitchen designer and knew she had found her niche. After achieving certification from the NKBA, she founded Abode Design Studio. She absolutely LOVES working from home and helping others create a home they love.
